What youll do

Join artist Nan Carreira in rethinking narratives around the LGBTQ+ experience and (un)happiness.

In the workshop you’ll think about how LGBTQ+ stories are represented in films, books and works of art. Why are so many queer characters portrayed as tragic or unhappy?

Nan will present examples from our collections that challenge the mainstream narratives around queer people and unhappiness.

And you’ll have the opportunity to create a collage using images from our collections to create your own narrative of queer people and happiness. You’ll finish by sharing what you’ve created in your collage.

We’ll provide a workshop pack of images for the collage to download or we can post it to you. You’ll need to have scissors and glue ready for the workshop.

This is a relaxed event. Cameras can be on or off as needed. You can move around and make noise at any time. If you need to dip in and out of the session, you can. There will be multiple ways to communicate, ask questions and participate (such as using the chat function if you do not want to use your voice).

The event on Saturday 20 November will have speech-to-text transcription.

This free event will be hosted through the videoconferencing platform BlueJeans. After booking a ticket, you will receive a confirmation email with joining instructions.

Bookings will close one week before the event happens.
