If the wound is inflicted by a needle or any fmall fharp instrument, the danger will depend on the depth and direction of the puncture. When the instrument has merely pierced the cornea, without either touching the iris or the chrystalline lens, the wound usually heals in a few days, with a moderate inflammation, leaving a fmall opacity, which when not to- wards the centre of the cornea, gives little inconvenience: but if, unfortunately, it penetrates, or even touches, the chrystalline lens, although at first, the fight fhould not be much impaired, it is greatly to be feared, that it will be affected in a week or two, and produce one fpecies of cataract which will obstruct the rays of light in their pafsage to the retina, and prevent vision.
