    Tile year has l)roiii;]i{ into operation the' excellent Cookinj^' Canteen at the Moorj^ate Centre and School Feeding'' Centres at seven schools in the area. It can be stated that a i^ooxl mid-day m'eal is provided at a reasonable charge, which has been od. per jneal for children under 8 years of age and 6d. per meal for children of 8 }-ears and upwards. The great demand for these mid-day meals has led to the carrving out of extensions at the Moorgate Centre and also to the provision of a number of addi- tixuial Scliool T^eeding C'entres, which, it is hoped, will be brought into operation in 1943. BLIND, DEAF, DEFECTIVE, AND EPILEPTIC CHILDREN. No schools for the treatment of these children have so far been provided by the Local Education Autliority, but Blind and Deaf children are sent to outside institutions. During 1942 the followin schools or hospitals:— Blind 3 Deaf 6 Phvsicrdlv defective ... 4 children were maintained in special Orthopa'dic cases 9 Tuberculous 10 Epileptic 1 INSTITUTIONS. m Children in hospitals or other institutions are visited periodi- cally bv the School Medical Officer, who discusses with doctors in charge the progress made by the patients. EMPLOYMENT OF SCHOOL CHILDREN. During the year 71 children have been examined as to their fitness to undertake employment {usually the delivery of news- papers) out of school hours. , In many cases, these children have been employed for several weeks before the necessary certificate has been obtained. It is necessary, therefore, to stress the point that all individuals, em- ploying school children, must ask the children to produce the necessary certificate, otlierwise’if the practice mentioned above is persisted in, stronger action will h^ve to be taken. -
