<p>This film catalogues the symptoms of venous congestion. The opening sequence shows a male patient in a sitting position on a hospital bed breathing shallowly. His legs, drapped over the side of the bed, are shown with oedema (swelling). His abdomen is swollen. The neck veins are visible; this phenomena is know as the venous reservoir. A model using glass jars together with a two-dimensional cut out person is utilised to illustrate the working of the venous reservoir. A manometer is shown in operation. A tilting table is shown with a clinician in attendance (presumably Sir Thomas Lewis) with various calculations.</p>
