About this work

Description

Documentary on the work of heart surgeon Sir Magdi Yacoub and his involvement with the Chain of Hope medical charity. Consists largely of scenes of the life of Harefield Hospital, including surgical scenes, against which Sir Magdi Yacoub is seen at work. He and Dr. Gavin Wright (consultant anaesthetist) explain the stressful nature of working with donor organs, for the surgical team, the donor's family and the potential recipient. This is illustrated by the case of an unsuccessful heart transplant, although that patient goes on to experience a successful heart and kidney transplant. With the Chain of Hope charity Sir Magdi Yacoub goes to Cairo where the medical team are besieged by families needing heart surgery for their children.
