    Aberdeen. 8th April, 18ofJ. In the prospect of the erection of additional Medical Chairs in connection with the Union of the Universities of Aberdeen, We, the undersigned Professors of Marischal College, feel ourselves called upon to bear our testimony to the importance of the services of Dr. George OgilYIE, and to express our anxious desire that these services may be secured to the United University, by his appointment to the Chair of Institutes of Medicine—a branch on which he has now lectured here for fourteen years. As Colleagues of Dr. Ogilvie, we have had ample opportunities of observing his constant exertions to promote the efficiency of his teaching in the purchase of suitable Illustrations; his command of the rapidly- advancing subject of Physiology and the allied Sciences, as evidenced by his treatise lately published on the Unity of Plan in he Animal Kingdom, a work which has been very favourably received; and also his great success as a teacher, as indicated by the progressive increase in the attendance of Students at his Class. He has also, gratuitously, given his services as Secretary to the Medical Faculty ever since his appointment as Lecturer, and has all along taken a very great interest in the welfare of the Medical School. He is known to be proficient in Natural Science, which has led to his having been requested by his Colleagues to undertake the part of Examiner in Botany, the duties of which office he has discharged, in addition to those connected with his own department, also without remuneration, and most efficiently. We may farther observe, that from the circumstance of Dr. Ogilvie being an Alumnus and a Graduate in Arts of this University, and having also, at the time of his graduation, taken the highest place in the Order of Merit, we have the fullest assurance of his continuing to devote his best energies to its service, should he become permanently connected with it, by his appointment to the Chair in question.
