![The brook still does duty as a sewer, and the encdosed portions have been ventilated as tlioronghly as ])ossible, but in some places where it passes under tlie houses tor considerable distances, ])roj)er ventilation is impossible. Many ot tbe old drains leading into tlie brook are constructed of rough stones, wliicli allow leakage in all directions, and impede the ])assage of sev'age. Several of these drains have broken doun completely. Where the sewage is not ])iissed into the brook the bucket svstem is used, the refuse so collected being cleared awav bv tlie Coiincirs scavenger twice weekly. The ]n‘ivy middens which are used in tlie outlying districts are gradually being superseded by septic tanks. House refuse is also removed twice weekly by the Scavenger. There have been no houses newlj' connected witli the.sewnr during the yeaig and no new eartli closets, pail closets, or improved ]jrivies constructed. Six notices were issued to empty privy vaults and one privy vault abolisbed.
