    Nottingham County and Borough Asylum, Tuesday, the 15th November, 1864, Since this Asylum was visited on the 5th of March, 1863, there have been 153 admissions, 82 discharges, and 67 deaths: the proportion of males and females being, under the first head, 72 and 81 ; under the second head, 41 of each sex; and under the third, 29 and 38. The deaths were from natural causes, the principal being general palsy and epilepsy, lung diseases, and exhaustion after mania ; nothing in them, excepting one case, calling for remark. This case was a man who was admitted with a self-inflicted wound % in the throat, of which he died after a few weeks, when an inquest was held, and a verdict given accordingly. Of those discharged, 64 had recovered. There are to-day on the hooks of the Asylum 325 patients, 168 men, and 157 women, all of whom we have seen at our visit; and considering the large number of helpless and otherwise trouble¬ some patients among them, the general condition and personal appearance of the inmates of both divisions were not unsatisfactory. In all the rooms forming the front elevation of the main building;, the old windows have been replaced since the last visit by windows of proper construction for the admission of light, and this addition of cheerfulness to the sleeping rooms, as well as day rooms, has contributed greatly to the comfort and improvement of the patients.
