And on the following day, the crew was fo bufily occu¬ pied, in unrigging the (hip, and clearing liti of ftcres and provifion, to prepare her for going into dock, that no time could be fpared to attend to the fumigation, until that duty was accomplifhed; which as it would take up fome days, and as her people were then to be put on board a receiving fhip, while Ihe was in dock, (a circumftance I confidered as very unfavourable to the ex- peiiment) I therefore came to London on the eleventh, to confult with Dodor Car¬ michael Smyth, what plan was bed: to purfue ; for as this was the only Ruffian veffel horn which a fair eftimate could be drawn of the utility and efficacy of the fumigation, I was anxious to continue it, in whatever manner might be thought moft likely to fecure fuccefs in deltroying the contagion, or leffening its malignity. f* 0 I re-
