    INQUESTS DURING THE YEAR 1904. During- the year the cause of death of 61 Bury residents were investigated by the District Coroner, Mr. S. F. Butcher. In 44 instances it was found advisable to hold an inquest, and in 17 cases ^an inquiry was dispensed with. Of this number 34 related to the bodies of males and 27 to females. T he following is a classification of the sex and age periods :— Males Females Under one year of age 6 ... 3 Over one and under five years of age 3 ... 6 Over 5 and under 15 years of age 3 ... — Over 15 and under 25 years of age 1 ... 1 Over 25 and under 65 years of age 15 ... 10 Over 65 years 6 ... 7 ■■ ——— Totals 34 27 In the 44 cases in which inquests were held the findings of the Coroner’s Juries were as follows :— Natural Causes 10 Accidents 24 Suicide 6 Doubtful 4 Of the six deaths from suicide (two males and four females), three committed suicide by taking poison, two by cutting their throats, and one by drowning. UNCERTIFIED DEATHS. The number of uncertified deaths, i.e., deaths which have not been certified by a Medical Man, or cases in which the Coroner deems the holding of an inquest unnecessary, was 17, ten being males and seven females.
