About this work
Description
Brain surgery to treat people with psychiatric illness was virtually abandoned 50 years ago over the abuse of lobotomies. But recent progress in neuroscience is igniting renewed interest in this field. Includes an archive recording of Walter Freeman, one of the men who pioneered the use of F̀rontal Lobotomy', a procedure first used by Egas Moniz in 1935. The programme talks to doctors and patients who are involved in the recent use of neurosurgery in the treatment of depression and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
