About this work
Description
Chaemiae universae experimentalis et rationalis institutio. Notes of a course of chemistry for medical students at Naples University, as stated in the opening 'Praefatio', from which the suggested attribution of authorship has been derived. Serao was a pupil of Nicolaus Cirillus [or Cyrillus] [1671-1734] at Naples University, and became professor of anatomy and physiology there in 1733. He was Secretary to the Academy of Science in 1737 when he wrote a short work on the eruption of Vesuvius. He became chief professor of medicine in 1755, and in 1779 was physician to King Ferdinand IV [1751-1825]. The experiments and ideas of Joseph Black [1728-1799], Henry Cavendish [1731-1810], Antoine Laurent Lavoisier [1743-1794], John Pringle [1707-1782] and Joseph Priestley [1733-1804] are frequently mentioned. Produced in Naples.
