Description

An historical account of the life and writings of Frederick Ruysch, M.D. A note by the anonymous translator on p. 72 is dated 1758. There is an inscription in the margin of p. 1 which has been heavily struck through.

Biographical note

The author obtained his M.D. at Leyden in 1728, where he had been a pupil of Boerhaave, and was an intimate friend of Albrecht von Haller. In 1731 he joined the Russian Army Medical Service, from which he retired in 1738. In 1739 he was appointed 'Stadtphysicus' of Moscow, and in 1742 professor of anatomy and surgery at St. Petersburg Medical Hospital.
