    4.V I Thomas Henty Huxley, who was born on 4th May, i8z5, was Professor of Biology from 1854, and Dean of the Royal College (then Normal School) of Science and Royal School of Mines from 1881 to the date of his death in 1895. The Memorial Lecture was founded by the Governing Body of the Imperial College of Science and Technology in 1925, following the celebration of the Centenary of Huxley’s birth.
