<p>'Jack' Cornwell was wounded during the battle of Jutland in 1916 aboard the H.M.S. Chester and subsequently died, not yet 17 years old. He was awarded the Victoria Cross. This is a charity stamp with a portrait of him that would have been sold to raise funds for the ward named after him at the Star & Garter Home (presumably the one on Richmond Hill,Surrey) for severely disabled sailors and soldiers.</p>
