<p>Photograph of two wooden effigies representing a medicine man of the Haida people, Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Island), British Columbia, Canada. The first figure is decorated with designs in red and black, has a curved nosepin through its nasal septum and is holding a rattle and baton. It was acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum and accessioned in 1936 (accession number R9581/1936). It is not held by Wellcome Collection. The second figure is holding a bird and kneeling or dancing. It was acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum and accessioned in 1942 (accession number R28/1942). It is not held by Wellcome Collection. Both figures were exhibited in the Museum's exhibition "Medicine of the Aboriginal Peoples in the British Commonwealth" held in 1952.</p>
