Description
Ink and brush drawing from a handwritten copy of the anonymous text Dingchuang yaojue (Essential Art of Boils), executed in 1874 (13th year of the Tongzhi reign period of the Qing dynasty). Taiyang (Great Yang) boil occurs at the taiyang (Great Yang) point, at the angle of the temple. It is treated with needling and opening (tiaoci) at the ermen (Ear Portal) and chahua (Flower Arrangement) points. Tianmen (Celestial Portal) boil occurs at the front of the forehead, while riyue jiao (Sun and Moon Corner) boil occurs at the corners of the forehead. They can all be treated with needling and opening at the third section of the spinal vertebrae. If this is not effective, needling and opening can be carried out at koumen (Mouth Portal).
