What you’ll do

Join Clare Sutherland and Océane Lacanau from our library team for an interactive workshop designed to help you discover the songsheets in our collections and inspire your own research projects.

Songsheets are sheets of paper with lyrics and musical notation, cheaply available in previous centuries for singalongs in homes and community spaces. The songsheets in our collections generally relate to health and wellbeing. They advertise medical remedies, doctors and sometimes things that are entirely unexpected!

You’ll learn about the songsheets we hold, be able to examine items from our collections, and participate in creative activities such as making your own songsheet cover or writing lyrics about a cover. Materials will be provided and no previous experience is necessary.

You’ll also learn about the practical aspects of using our collections, including how to find and order items using the online catalogue.

This workshop is open to all levels and backgrounds but will be especially suited to those who are new to Wellcome Collection or at the beginning of their research journey.

Unique and vulnerable items will be on display at the workshop, so please leave pens, coats, bags and other personal belongings in the cloakroom on the ground floor. You may bring laptops, notebooks and pencils to take notes.
