What you’ll do  

Join a school workshop inspired by the exhibition ‘The Healing Pavilion‘ by Grace Ndiritu. 

Students will explore the exhibition and develop a better understanding of the work of the artist, guided by curator Aliyah Hasinah. Students will develop critical thinking by questioning knowledge production and interpretation in Western museums. They will think about how collections influence how we see the world.  

For the second part of the workshop, students will use archive images to create a creative response to the exhibition.  

We have developed this workshop for groups of students aged 14 to 19, studying GCSEs or post-16 qualifications at school or sixth-form college. You can bring up to 30 students, accompanied by staff at a ratio of 1:10.

Due to the small scale of our free programme, schools in the Greater London area have priority.

All required materials will be supplied, but you are welcome to bring your own if you like. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch, and there will be an hour’s lunch break.  

There will be a breakout space available for students who need space to reflect.

Aliyah Hasinah

Curator

Aliyah Hasinah is a curator, director and writer of Jamaican and Bajan heritage. Her practice has centred decolonial and international perspectives of being, loving and sharing knowledge. In 2020, Aliyah founded Black Curatorial, which supports Black curators in the UK and Caribbean to play and experiment through lab spaces and communal sharing. Aliyah also works as a conceptual creative in the advertising and commercial creative world. She is currently a Jerwood Curatorial Fellow 2022–23 and Greatcoat Film Emerging Director, focusing on the intersection of immersive healing, installation, live music and archival culture.

Black Curatorial

Collaborator

Black Curatorial are an organisation creating spaces for Black curators to build, play and experiment within their practice across creative disciplines. These are brought to life through lab spaces, conceptual creative consulting, exhibitions and workshop programmes/training. Black Curatorial’s clients include Art Fund, D&ADShift x Google, Creative Debuts and Redwood BBDO.
