What you’ll do

Join artist Juliana Cerqueira Leite in her studio in Milan, Italy, where she will discuss her artist’s book, ‘A Potential Space’. The book is an examination of how the vagina has been seen (or imagined) and interpreted. In conversation with Wellcome Collection’s Danny Rees, Juliana will look back on some shifts in cultural attitudes since the creation of her book in 2016, and consider how her body-focused work has developed in recent years.

You’ll be able to ask questions and share your thoughts after the discussion.

About your speaker

Juliana Cerqueira Leite

(she/her)

Juliana Cerqueira Leite is a Brazilian/American sculptor based in New York. She was awarded the 2016 Furla Art Prize for her contribution to the fifth Moscow International Biennale for Young Art. She has exhibited her work in sculpture, drawing, photography and video in solo shows around the world. She graduated from the sculpture programme at the Slade School of Fine Art, London, in 2006 as the inaugural recipient of the Kenneth Armitage Young Sculptor Prize. Cerqueira Leite received the 2019 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant for her exhibition ‘Orogenesis’, at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, Italy.
