    Workpeople’s Hospital Fund, During the year 1928, a new scheme of contribution was adopted by the Workpeople in the District ; and to-day over 50% of the Employees have agreed to allow a weekly deduction from their wages—or salaries—for the benefit of the Fund. The result of this scheme is being shown in that whereas in 1927 the contribution to the Hospital was £1,154 2s. 4d. that in the year 1928 was £1,619 13s. lid. The scheme is not working fully as yet, but is expected to do so within the next few months. The Workpeople’s Hospital Fund has been—in the past—hindered in its work by reason of the fact that so many Eccles residents had to be sent for treatment to Salford and Manchester, because of our past lack of facilities for treatment, but now that we have extended our accommodation and can cater for all manner of cases, this drawback is swept away, and the Workpeople’s Hospital Fund Committee will now proceed unfettered in its work on behalf of the Hospital. Their’s is a great undertaking and has required tremendous energy and forbearance. Appeal Fund. In October, 1928, an Appeal for Funds to cover the cost of the extensions was launched, and thanks to the contributions of the President, Mr. Tongue, the Members of the Board of Governors, Mrs. Schofield (Blackpool) and the large number of subscribers, the Appeal Fund has—at the moment of going to press—reached a total of over £4,000. There is still £1,000 required and it is hoped this will be forthcoming early. To all members of the Appeal Fund Committee, namely, Messrs. Albrow, H. M. B. Davies, Geo. F. Kitson, Geo. G. Senior, Chas. Edmeston, Dr. Dowzer, and Dr. Sidley, the Board tenders its grateful thanks. . * Efforts Committees. During the past year, Mrs. Watson and her Committee have again shown their untiring interest in the welfare of the Hospital and much of the new equipment in the Ultra-violet Ray Department was installed by this Committee’s efforts. Mrs. Hollinworth and Dr. D. Glen organised in March, 1928, a very successful function at the Midland Hotel, Manchester, and over £80 accrued therefrom. The Winton Ladies, under the guidance of Mrs. Tonge, their President, again contributed handsomely to the Funds of this Hospital. This Committee working in its usual unobtrusive manner benefits the Institution in no uncertain fashion. The Sewing Ladies (Mrs. A. Brooks as President) has provided some 600 garments during the past year, and also contributed readily in the matter of material for making garments. To all these Committees the Board desires to express its gratitude and appreciation, hoping that they will continue their kind services towards the Institution.
