About this work

Description

Various different types of sick people kneel before the saint: left to right, a woman with a sick child, a maniac possessed by a devil and manacled at the foot, a blind man with his dog, and a man with a crutch. Apparently, therefore, the picture shows no particular miracle but Paul's miracle's in general, as in Acts c. 19, v. 11 "And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul". Above, on a platform sits an official modelled on Sergius Paulus, the proconsul of Cyprus, in Raphael's cartoon of the blinding of Elymas (Acts 13: 7-12)
