No text description is available for this image![Nurseries. —On the 5th July three day nurseries in the Stockton Municipal Borough passed to the control of the County Council and these, together with those already administered by the County Council (2 day and 2 residential) made a total at the end of the year of 5 day and 2 residential nurseries. The following table shows the accommo- dation available in each nursery together with the average daily attendances .— • Nurseries.— Table 14. Nursery. Number of Places. Prevention of Deafness.—Up to the 5th July 48 children were recommended for treatment under this .scheme, compared with 66 for the whole of 1947. Orthopaedic Treatment.—Up to the 5th July assistance towards the cost of appliances was granted in respect of five children. Two children were admitted into an orthopaedic hospital. County Federation of Voluntary Workers.—Four meetings were held during the year. The sum of ;^36 11s. Od. was subscribed to the Federation Convalescent Scheme by the voluntary committees of the welfare centres, and arrangements were made for 12 mothers to have convalescent treatment under this scheme. Specialist Clinics.—Three specialist consultation clinics were held throughout the year.
