    ON THE SYNOVIAL MEMBRANE OF THE KNEE JOINT. Affections of the knee joint form so im¬ portant a department of Surgery, that no apology can be necessary for making the anatomical structure, and the pathology of its capsule, the subject of a Probationary Essay. Much practical experience is un¬ questionably required to correct the vague¬ ness of the knowledge drawn from books on these subjects, yet it is not less certain that such experience will be of little avail, unless it be built on an exact acquaintance with the anatomical structure of the parts concerned.
