    COUNTY OF FIFE. Report by the County Medical Officer of Health for the Year 1920 (being the 26th Annual Report, a hiatus OF FOUR YEARS HAVING OCCURRED DURING THE WAR PERIOD). POPULATION. The population of the Landward Area of the County accord- ing to the estimate of the Registrar-General, calculated to the middle of the year 1920, was 113,177, being an increase of 1289 over the figure for 1919. The natural increase of the population, that is the excess of births over deaths, for 1920, was 1920. The populations of the four County Public Health Districts, similarly estimated to the middle of 1920, were Cupar District, Dunfermline District, Kirkcaldy District, St Andrews District, The results of the census, curacy of these figures. 14,998 33,961 49,298 .. 14,920 now imminent, will test the ac- BIRTHS. During 1920, there were registered in the County Area 3138 births, of which 219 or 6.97% were illegitimate. The figure for 1920 is the highest recorded for birth events either before or since the years 1908 and 1909, when 3210 and 3180 respectively were registered, while the birth-rate of 23.5 per 1000 is higher than that of the four preceding years.
