The author has some interesting observations to make on the early origin of this legend which he finds in a work of the 10th century and later in England in the 12th century (John of Salisbury). The maker’s name which is stamped on the bottom of the design appears to be David Meren of Augsburg 21s absolutely original condition, with the blank margins of the grey paper on which it was printed intact.
