As stated below, the relevant tables on page 10 of this Report, the Birth and Death Rates, are calculated using the Comparability Factor, supplied for this purpose by the Registrar-General. This factor is designed to compensate for varia¬ tions in the age and sex structure of the population of different areas, and to make the Birth and Death Rates so calculated compar¬ able to those of other areas, and to the figures for England and Wales.
