![[ * ] The disease alluded to, as far as I can recollect, has not been accurately defined by medical writers. In common and familiar language, it is called fcorbutic, though it does not feem to have any con- nection with the fcorbutus of nosologists. It appears to be a debility, and want of action in the cutaneous vefsels, and is marked by a dry and harsh fkin, little or no colour in the cheeks, the cuticle by places coming off in powder, or in fcales; when the lkin is abraded it is a long time in healing, eruptions in different parts of the body are common, especially in those that are most exposed, as the face and hands, fometimes in fmall red pimples whichfuppurate, at others,fmall vesications filled with a transparent fluid arise, attend- ed with an itching and burning; these break, and are fucceeded by others, and in this manner it will occasionally continue for months, causing much pain and uneasi- nefs. People of this constitution flowly re- cover from inflammations of the eyes.
