![[ ™ ] not give fo terrible an account of it, as feveral later writers have done, neither does he reckon it fo certainly fatal. His de- scription of it is most minute; fome parts of which are fanciful, and. given apparently from fome presupposed ideas he had form- ed of the disease: others answer tolerably well to the purulent eye. He fays, that though the venereal Opthalmy fucceeds a fupprefsed gonorrhoea, it is only in those persons whose eyes are naturally weak and tender; or who have had them hurt, either by a blow or fome extraneous matter, by which he thinks a free entrance is opened for the redundant venereal poison. The discharge from the eye, he likewise adds, will in a moment fubside, on the return of the original complaint.
