    1898 1897 Infectious Cases Notified Infectious Cases Isolated at Crozier 298 431 Lodge Fever Hospital 52 98 Registration Sub-Districts. 1898 1897 St. Mary’s Sub-District—Population 25,587 25,344 St. Cuthbert’s do. do. 16,513 16,356 VITAL STATISTICS. During the year- the births of 1,311 children have been registered. Of these 685 were boys and 626 girls. The total gives a rate of 81.1 per 1,000 of the estimated population. Last year the birth-rate was 31'7 per 1,000 of the estimated population. MORTAL STATISTICS. During the year ending December 31st, 935 deaths were registered in the Carlisle Urban Sanitary District. Of these 459 were males and 476 were females. The death- rate is equal to 22*2 per 1,000 of the population estimated to the middle of the year. Last year (1897) 811 deaths were registered, the death-rate being equal to 19‘4 per 1000 of the estimated population. The following table gives the deaths of persons not belonging to the Carlisle Urban District.
