In July, 1955, the total number of houses which were scheduled to be dealt with in the first five year programme of slum clearance was 153. By 31st December, 1956, some form of action had been taken in respect of 44 houses. These were all treated as Individual Unfit Houses. 23 Demolition Orders or Closing Orders were issued, an undertaking not to re-let was accepted for one house, and for the 20 remaining houses, action will be completed early in 1957. This indicated that the target of dealing with 153 in 5 years should be achieved, but will be influenced by the speed at which new houses can be provided to rehouse the di,splaced families.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b28916906_0022.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
