    The Council decided that a special Committee be appointed to go carefully into the merits of the three proposals from the public health --ad financial aspects and the influence on the West Wight as a holiday resort with a very long and popular coast-line and an ever increasing residential population. The Consulting Engineers were instructed to carry out a hydrographic survey to determine the most suitable site for an outfall in the Solent. All these proposals are being carefully examined. REFUSE COLLECTION The weekly collection of refuse now covers all parishes in the West Wight including Shorwell, Calbourne and Shalfleet where there was formerly a fort- nightly collection. The centralised refuse tip at Bleakdown is fifteen miles distant from the parishes of Freshwater and Totland and Yarmouth where the bulk of refuse is collected and the increased haulage time has resulted in higher costs for the service but eliminates any cause for complaint as to unsightliness and occasional nuisance from the old tips.
