In no industry has there been more progress shown than in the manu- facture of soap. This is at once apparent on a look round Port Sunlight Works, the home of Sunlight Soap. The manufacture of Sunlight Soap is a process full of interest and education to all. Every corner of the globe is explored to provide the raw materials, which are refined and purified before being delivered to the soap boiler to be converted into soap. Soap is made by the action of caustic soda on fats and oils, and the art of the soap boiler is to combine these fats with the soda in such a manner as to ensure an exact balance of each. This is effected in the case of Sunlight in large steel vessels known as pans, each capable of holding sixty tons of boiling soap. The purified and carefully blended oils and fats are pumped into these huge cauldrons, and under expert supervision the process known as saponification is started by the gradual addition of sufficient alkali to combine exactly with the fatty WAS LEO ODEO ODL OLIN ONES LIZ ODIO LEM FES TEL DNS NDE GUY SSS ESE GRE OGheERee j
