![disturbances of important organs which may be the result of mechanical obstruction ; as, for instance, pressure upon the biliary passages in cancer of the pancreas, pressure upon the ureters in cancer of the uterus, etc. Moreover, we must not lose sight of the anemia consequent upon hemor¬ rhages or disturbed nutrition, and of the secondary infections, mostly septic, which are likely when the growths are near or upon the surface, including the absorption of ptomaines, etc., under whose constant influence visceral degenerations may easily occur. Furthermore, frequency of renal lesions must not be forgotten, as, for instance, according to Schrader, parenchymatous nephritis occurred ten times in fifty cases of cancer of the stomach.
