    that affording the clearest definition, was iron and pyrogallic acid. Those who support the denudation theory, assert that each recurring monthly flow is anti- cipated by a fatty degeneration of the mucous lining of the uterus, that blood is extravasated into its substance, and eventually the whole be- coming disintegrated is washed away impercep- tibly with the escaped blood. A new mucous membrane is thereafter by degrees regenerated from the inner layer of the muscular coat, which in its turn too, like its predecessor, must undergo a similar degenerative change and be ultimately removed from the body. Some of the lower animals, it is true, retain the power of reproducing limbs, and possibly other parts of the body when such are removed by accident. If the separation of a part be too frequently practised, we eventually exhaust the power, the structural integrity of the regenerated limb or tissue becoming less and less marked with each removal. Clinically, if the mucous membrane of the uterus were shed with each catamenial flow, it must be capable of completing its cycle of degeneration, shedding and regeneration in an incredible number of clays.
