![22. He shall cross the cheques in payment of all tradesmen’s accounts for goods supplied to the Asylum (when such tradesmen have a banking account) as follows: “ Not negotiable.” 23. He shall pay all male attendants twice monthly. 24. He shall keep in a separate book a statement shewing week by week the expenditure on account of all votes of the Sub-Committee for which a monetary grant has been made, which shall be called the “ Expenditure under Votes Book,” and shall be submitted to the Sub-Committee at each meeting. 25. He shall take steps to ensure that the excess accruing in respect of the maintenance of Out-County patients, private patients and criminal lunatics is paid over to the Council immediately after the end of each financial year. 26. He shall undertake such other duties as may be required of him from time to time. STEWARD. 1. He shall be under the genera] direction and control of the Medical Superintendent, subject to that of the Sub-Committee. 2. He shall reside in the Asylum, and shall not follow or be connected with any trade or business, nor hold any other place or employment whatsoever. He shall not absent himself for a night without the consent of the Medical Superin- tendent. 3. He shall superintend the kitchen and baking depart- ments, and have the charge of the general stores and all articles of domestic consumption, for which he shall be responsible to the Sub-Committee. 4. He shall give such security as the Sub-Committee may require, and shall not, either directly or indirectly, have any interest in or connection with any other House for the reception of lunatics, or in any contract for the supply of the Asylum. 5. He shall keep a Diary, and shall record therein all circumstances connected with his department as they occur, and also his attendances at the Asylum and absence during business hours, and such Diary shall be laid on the table at every meeting of the Sub-Committee. 6. He shall keep a “ Complaint Book,” in which he shall enter all matters relating to improper or insufficient supply by contractors, and he shall lay this book before the Sub-Committee at each meeting, and shall submit it to the Asylums Contract Sub-Committee when fresh contracts are being entered into. o](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b28086818_0021.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
