    GENERAL INFORMATION Water. The Water Engineer and Manager has kindly supplied the following information. The Water Department supplies 101,315 dwellings within the City covering the whole of the estimated population of 284,680. Distribution is by public water main direct to houses, etc., no supplies being given by means of standpipes. The supply to the whole area has been satisfactory in quality and quantity. A total of some 349 bacteriological samples of raw water and 785 bacteriological samples of water passing into supply was examined during the year. The bac¬ teriological quality of water passing into supply was satisfactory. Regular chemical analyses were taken from water supplied ; these indicated no significant variation from previous years. The water supplied has no plumbo-solvent action. Fluoride is not added to the water. Drainage and Sewerage. The following information has been supplied by the Director of Technical Services :— West Hull. The Humberside Pumping Station handles the majority of the combined foul and surface water flows from areas to the west of the River Hull and also from the greater part of the Urban District Council of Haltemprice. Screenings are separated from the flows, macerated and then pumped into the River Humber during ebb tide periods. No other treatment is given to the remainder of the flow prior to pumping into the river during any state of the tide. A privately developed housing estate off Beverley Road near to the City boundary is drained to a small sewage treatment works. These Works have continued to discharge a satisfactorily treated sewage effluent into the River Hull. The Old Town, including the Waterhouse Lane area, drains by gravity directly into the Rivers Hull and Humber, and to alleviate flooding in this area, work has started on the design of the Central Area Trunk Sewer which will allow this part of the City to be drained to the Humberside Pumping Station. A technical report and drawings for this trunk sewer have been submitted to the Department of the Environment for approval and the preparation of Tender Documents for the first stage of the scheme is now in hand. East Hull. A small area which lies between the River Hull and Victoria Dock is drained by gravity directly into the River Humber,
