We now choose the concentration of total base as 43 millimoles per liter, a fair value for the sum of the base distributed between hemoglobin and carbonic acid in normal arterial blood, the concentration of hemoglo¬ bin as 147 grams per liter. The other conditions are un¬ modified. Calculation gives table 3. It will be seen that table 3 must yield a dissociation curve of quite a different character from that of table 2.
