![G The Recoveries have been 22, 7 males and ]5 females, showing a percentage of about 35 recovered on the number admitted. The Deaths having been 30 in all classes, give a percentage of rather over G upon the number in the Asylum during the greater part of the year. There has been a large proportion of hopelessly incurable Patients admitted, 10 Males afflicted with Paralysis and G with Epilepsy. The bodily health of the Patients has been good; there has been no contagious or special illness; no inquest has been held; there has been no accident worthy of notice. The Maintenance Rate has stood at Is. 2d. per day throughout the year. On the opening of the New Lunatic Asylum at Portsmouth, Mr. Bland, the Assistant Medical Officer at Forston, removed thither, in consequence of his having received the appointment of Medical Superintcndcnt. His loss is much regretted by the Visitors, and they believe by all connected with the County Asylums; as resident at Forston for G years he had had the constant charge of the Patients there, and had conducted himself with kind and considerate care to them, and with courtesy to all about him. Mr. Henry George Peacock, one out of 15 candidates, who brought very good testimonials from the Suffolk County Asylum, has been appointed in Mr. Bland’s place, and gives every promise of being an efficient County Officer. The two Asylums on all occasions, when inspected by the Visitors have been found in a satisfactory state, fully justifying the confidence which through so many years they have placed in the judgment and skill of the Medical Superintendent. The other Officers, Attendants and Servants have all earned the approval of the Visitors by the careful discharge of their duties. By the removal of the Portsea and Southampton Patients a considerable amount of accommodation will be vacant.
