    ^ the requirements of the Midwives Act ]..m, \our (ouiu-il decided upon a sclieme whereby Midwifery within your County was delegated to District Nursing Associations where such Associations existed, and in addition, to appoint two hole-time Midvvives in areas not already covered by Niirsin- Associations. This scheme is now being developed and there are only two areas in the County, Merthyr Cynog and Penderyn, that have no local Nursing Associations, and in these parts vour appointed two IMidwives to carrv out the work one Midwife commencing duties on 1/11/38 in Merthvr Cynog’, the other Alidwife in Penderyn 1/12/38. therefore be seen that when the new appointment at (nlwern is made the whole of the County is now covered for Midwifery Service. The Scheme so far is working in a satisfactory mannei, and there appears to be no complaints. (See page 0 for further notes). Supervision of Midwives— During 1938, 49 Midwives notified their intention to practice within the County. 3 Midwives notified their intention to practice, but left durino- the year. 21 Border Alidwives notified their intention to practice withui the County. 13 Border Midwives notified their intention to cease practice during 1938, and one Midwife surrendered her certificate, and compensation was paid accordingly. Midwives Employed under the Scheme— 2/) District Nurse Midwives and two whole-time Midwives whose duties are confined to Midwifery only.
