    PREFACE. The history of this brochure is as follows :—In the winter of 1844-5, I delivered an Address to the Dublin Obstetrical Society on the subject of congenital mal- formations. That Address contained the skeleton of this tract, portions of which were published in the Bi- monthly Dublin Journal, in 1845, and in the quarterly volumes of that periodical in 1848, 1861, and 1862. From the worked-off sheets of these papers the follow- ing pages have been supplied. Conceiving that, for reference, they would be acceptable to my brethren engaged in the practice of ophthalmic medicine, and as no other work of the kind has been published in English, I present them just as they originally ap- peared. ^ Dublin, 1, MEEEion-sauAiiE, Nokth, January y 1862.
