![IMPROVEMENT GRANTS In the case of applications for Improvement Grants, houses are inspected and advice given on the reconstruction, alterations or improvements. During the year, out of a total of 35 Standard Grant applications, 34 were finally approved, and improvement work was completed in the case of 29 premises and Completion Certificates issued. Also during the year 1 Discretionary Grant application was finally approved, and improvement work was completed in the case of 2 properties and Completion Certificates issued. Since the inception of the scheme for the improvement of houses by way of financial grants, 95 Discretionary Grant applications have been approved of which total 86 have been completed. 133 Standard Grant application have been recommended and a total of 105 have been completed. DRAINAGE New House Construction. Normal procedure is for consultation and inspection with the builder prior to construction of drainage in connection with new house construction or alterations and rebuilding; The department advises on the siting and design of drainage disposal plants where no public sewers are available. All new drainage is tested and the number of tests applied to new drains during the year amounted to. 174 Inspections to work in progress amounted to . 250 Visits.
