    1 have now, Gentlemen, brought to a conclusion the ob¬ servations which have occurred to me relative to two great defects which exist in the system of Medical Education * t at present pursued in your University ; and I have taken the liberty to suggest the measures by which, in my opi¬ nion, these defects may be best remedied, and your Medi¬ cal School placed on a footing of equality with similar In¬ stitutions. The only apology I can make for the trouble which, on this and on former occasions, I have given you, is the warm interest which, as a Teacher of Medicine, I must ever feel in the reputation and prosperity of this School, whether my labours are exerted without or within the walls of the University. The time has been, when it might have been supposed that I had a personal interest in recommending the adoption of these measures ; but the ambition I Jong felt of obtaining a seat in the Medical Fa¬ culty I now resign to one who lias been for some years the associate of my studies, and has become my Assistant in teaching the Practice of Physic.
