The unfortunate Gentleman complied, and its Eftedts were, that the Sore in about fix Weeks Time, Ipread to that Degree, that the whole Lip was veiy near deftroyed, together with great Part of his Chin ; Part of the Jaw'- Bone was bare, and the Joint fo fixed, that he could not open his Teeth; all the neighbouring Glands were tumified to a very great Degree, and the Smell was lb offenfive, nothing could exceed it. In this ftate he applied to me, being but a few Months ago, it being then out of my Power to relieve him. i was informed he died foon after. This Cafe could not pofiibly have raged and fpread to the above fhocking State in fo fhort a Time, but from the inju¬ dicious and dangerous Ufe of the Cauftic. Nearly about the fame Time, a Gentleman's Servant, afflidted with a Cancer on his Lip, de- fired my Advice. The whole Lip, except a very final 1 Piece, was eaten away, his Cheek tumified and indurated up to the Eye-lid, Part of the Maxilla bare, the adjacent Glands fwelled, the Carotides grown to the Size of a Man’s Fift. This unhappy Objedt informed me, that when he went to the H-1 the whole of the Cancer did not then exceed the Size of a Sixpence ; nor was there any Swell* ing of the above Parts; that he was drefi'ed every Day with Cauftic Applications, which always produced the moft fevere Pains, and deftroyed the Parts by Piece-meal, until he could
