    FOREWORD Heredity is more of a factor in human life than in plant life—more of a menace—more of a hope. And nothing in the world of living things re- sponds so quickly to new environments as the human mind—child and adult. The great value of Luther Burbank’s work lies in blazing the path of the application of the forces of heredity and environment to the improvement of the human plant—to the production of better races, better nations, better communities, better families, better individuals. Having completed the classification of Mr. Burbank’s Records as applied to plant life, The Luther Burbank Society now proceeds to the larger task of interpreting the forces of heredity and environment toward the betterment of the human plant through a series of monographs, the titles of which are given on the last page, the sixth of the series appearing herewith.
