Full PPE (instragram) 'Detail of the description of PPE back in April 2020. As I work in the surgical unit was quite easy to grasp the main principles of covering ourselves up as much as possible. However this was a challenge for those colleagues who had joined our team from other departments as theirs had been suspended due to the cessation of non essential clinics and screening procedures. This also caused much debate amongst ourselves and often people were mesmerized by the sheer volume of protective gear to be put on and in what order. We found ourselves having to educate the surgeons, doctors, key-workers, physiotherapists, radiographers and toher professionals on how to 'don on'. And how to 'doff off'. Here's the thing for me personally it was at times confusing between totally sterile for scrubbing purposes to being 'non sterile' protected in my other roles as an inside and outside runner and finally as an ITU buddie...those subtle nuances became more and more apparent yet automatic as time went by. Extra considerations had to be taken as we had to watch the consumption of our own gowns purely reserved for surgical interventions against the initial liberal overuse for Covid protection purposes! In other words we potentially were at risk of running out of PPE which was a national issue right at the beginning of the pandemic. I'm planning to draw the current PPE as work a year later after adaptations have had to be made after so many of us had to adjust the ways we wear our own personalized version of the PPE..
