    Cafes, believing that when the defcent of the Vijcera was no lower than the Groin, the Peritonaum was only dilated ; when it pufhed down into the Scrotum, it was ruptured : and from this laft Suppofition, the Diftemper it- felf was called a Rupture; The Moderns deny t ie Rupture of the Peritonaum, not fo much as granting it poftible on any Occafion what- loever, except where there may have been a previous Wound of the Peritonaum, in which Circumftance they believe the Cicatrix may open, and admit of the Infinuation of the Vifcera through it 5 but though this be the generally received Opinion at prefent, it is evident to me, that notwithftanding the Peri¬ tonaum may at firft fall down with the Vifcera, yet in length of time it may alfo be ruptured ■ becaufe I have found the hiteftine and Omentum within the Tunica Vaginalis of the Tefhcle, and in contadt with the Tefticle itfelf, which they could not poffibly have been, 'if they were inveloped in a portion of the Peritonaum : However this Circumftance occurs but rarely j for we ufually find the Vifcera within a Pro- lapfus of the Peritonaum, which Prolapfus is now known by the Name of the Herniary Sac.
