    Tefticle, but the Moderns have divided it into two; fo much of it as inverts the Cord, they call the Tunica Vaginalis of the Cord, and that which contains the Terticle, the Tunica Vaginalis of the Terticle. They imagine the Tunica Vaginalis of the Cord, to be a loofe Sheath framed for the reception of the Sper¬ matic VefTels and Vas deferens; but the Notion of a Vacuity in this Place is groundlefs, thofe Vertels being evidently connected with one another and with the Inverting Membrane, by the Intervention of the cellular Membrane : Neverthelefs, when the Herniary Sac falls into the Gioin or Scrotum, thefe Cells give way as it advances, and the Inverting Membrane together with the Cremafter Mufcle which coveis it, become dirtended, and form in confequence of that Violence an abfolute Va- gina ; which Circumrtance may poffibly have given rile to the Opinion of a natural Vacuity in the Tunica Vaginalis of the Cord. The Tunica Vaginalis of the Terticle is a loofe Sheath formed to contain not only the Pefticle itfelf, but a fmall quantity of Water for lubricating the Terticle. Its external Coat is a continuation of the inverting Membrane ofthe Cord, but its internal one is proper to the Tef- ticle, being in its upper Part connected with the ® 3 “ Sper-
