![THE EIGHTY-SECOND ANNUAL REPORT OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE WOMAN’S HOSPITAL IN THE STATE OF NEW YORK The Board of Governors of the Woman’s Hospital in the State of New York presents the following reports from the several departments of the Hospital for the year ending December 31, 1937. The Board calls attention to the following facts: During the year 2,925 ward patients were given a total of 44,504 days treatments of which 30,263 days treatments or 68% were free. The re¬ ceipts from the ward patients amounted to $90,109.82 while the care of these patients cost the Hospital $277,468.83. In the Out-Patient Department 10,768 patients made a total of 42,080 visits in the Clinics. The cost of maintaining this service amounted to $42,924.83 while the fees collected from patients able to pay amounted to $21,287.50. In the Social Service Department 4,201 cases were cared for, including the prenatal care of 983 prospective mothers; 2,276 visits were made to the homes of patients, including 1,533 visits for the Surgical and Obstetrical Follow-Ups, and the care of 32 convalescent patients was arranged for with the various Convalescent Homes. The net cost of the charitable activities of the Hospital for the year amounted to $208,996.34. The total current receipts from earnings, donations and income from investments amounted to $472,066.79, and the total current expenses to $527,370.10, leaving an excess of current expenses over current revenue of $55,303.31. Comparative statistics for the year 1937 and 1936 will be found in the Report of the Treasurer on page 18. The principal needs of the Hospital are: Larger General Endowment. Funds for Scientific Re search. Endowment of $10,000 for the Surgical Library and Record Room. Funds for Emergency Treatments for Needy Cases. It is with deep sorrow that announcement is made of the death on July 2nd, of Mrs. Thomas Fortune Ryan and of the death on December 25th of Mrs. William V. S.
