Its diuretic efTc^ts are' in some instanecs considerable. Its fulmar name, in more than one language, implies a knowledge of its powers. K, (3) It may not be amjss to stale that this termination so common in the names of British plants, is derived from the Saxon a herb or plant, and implies that the plant-so denominated, has been supposed to possess some specific power of curing the disease of a particular organ, e. g. Lungwort, Liverwort, &c, K, ( (4) The hark of all the species of Salix, containing a considerable portion of Tannin, is useful in the art of tanning leather. With regard to its medical properties, it may suffice to say, that it is by no means a despicable tonic, though experience and analysis prove it an improper substitute for the Bark of t>a?
